Festivals, Live in the 16 to 1 Mine, U.K., Vox Pop Award
Hey Folks! We have some great festivals this summer, starting with the Live Oak Music Festival near Santa Barbara, CA, then the Susanville Bluegrass Festival up near Mt. Lassen, the Larmer Tree Festival in the UK, the Americana upon Tyne Festival in the UK, Strawberry Music Festival near Yosemite, CA, the Anderson Marsh Bluegrass Festival in Clear Lake, CA, and the Humboldt Hoedown in--you got it, Humboldt County, CA!
We have something new at those merch tables, too. Rita and Sean made an EP in the 16 to 1 Gold Mine in Alleghany, CA. It's about 20 minutes of mine related songs (2 by Utah Phillips, one new one by Rita,) made with one mic--trickling water, quartz crunching and all. Daughter Kora did some videotaping (and singing, by the way,) created a a short film that we added on to make a Cd-Rom. Look out for Live in the 16 to 1 Mine! And now, new--you can hear samples and purchase it online at CD BABY!
Rita, Sean and kids toured the U.K. this summer, and what an amazing trip! Heartfelt thanks to all the hosts, esp. Grapevine Music Agency. For U.K. folks that are shopping, Come Sunrise is stocked in the U.K. by Fish Records and Smart Choice UK (as well as Europe Itunes and more digital options.) In the Netherlands/Benelux, all three of my records are available through Lucky Dice Music .
Earlier we learned that Come Sunrise, Rita's latest record, was nominated as Best Country Album in the 2010 Independent Music Awards. Now, it's been awarded the Vox Pop or People's Choice award! (There could be 2 winners per category--one judge's and one people's choice.) Huge thanks to the People!! (To listen to Come Sunrise, ask the bird at the bottom right of the page.) Come Sunrise was produced and played on by Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen, Caroline Herring,) at Ace Recording in Austin, Texas. Lots more Austin greats play on it as well.
Here is a sampling of U.S. reviews: Twang Nation , Country Standard Time , Rock and Reprise , Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange , 3rd Coast Music , and Fiddlefreak . Fiddlefreak's Stuart Mason penned a favorite line--The songs of Rita Hosking are as fragile as a newborn baby, and defiant as a West Virgina coal miner. :-)
For sample reviews from the U.K., we have The Observer , Americana UK (9/10 yeehah!), Flyinshoes , and printed in February, Q Magazine and Maverick Magazine (4.5 stars!)
Here are some Dutch/Belgian reviews: Johnny's Garden (Netherlands) , CtrlAltCountry (Belgium) , and Rootstime (Belgium) .
And huge thanks to all the marvelous dj's in the U.S. and abroad who have been playing my music!
Sean and I went to Folk Alliance in Memphis this year, here is a glimpse of the hotel-room-style showcasing that goes on there, this one hosted by CD Baby-- YOU TUBE VIDEO . And here's a nice video of an October performance on You Tube . And did you know that there is a Rita Hosking Wikipedia Page ?
Thank you so much for visiting, hope to see you out there, and Take Care!
